The current owners of the Motiva Group, Danny and Teresa Perreault, started their Investing career in the early 90’s after realizing that working for someone else was not resulting in their dreams coming true.
Using two different credit cards to afford an American “No Money Down” Real Estate Course, the Perreaults purchased and devoured the information, immediately jumping headfirst into the Real Estate game. Thrilled to apply their newfound knowledge, within 8 short weeks the Perreaults acquired 13 different real estate holdings. However, as so many enthusiastic newcomers do, Danny and Teresa quickly got in over their heads as they recognized that their passion and vision out strapped their means. Struggling to fulfill all to which they had committed in their new Real Estate career while each holding down 50+ hour jobs, caused strains that ran counter to everything they had envisioned.
Desperate to find help to alleviate the situation, Danny joined a local real estate group. While it provided some worthwhile information and forecasting, it had little information on how to network and offered no such opportunities. Looking back now, the Perreaults also realize that the group lacked the nurturing and protective environment that is critical for anyone starting out, saying, “We met so many shady people, we were so naïve.”
Frustrated with what had turned into a miserable lifestyle, the Perreaults made the decision to sell everything and get out of real estate only nine months after getting the American course. When the dust settled, Danny and Teresa found themselves $90,000 in debt. The equity in their home was gone, the credit cards were maxed and the line of credit was tapped out.
Fortunately, things turned around for Danny and Teresa through some smart thinking and a series of good events. Danny got a promotion at work and the Perreaults paid down some debt. Then, their big break. The Perreaults met Steele Tolman, founder of the Motiva Group, and one of his Investors at a business event. Steele went on to mentor the Perreaults in the fashion that has become the benchmark of the Motiva Group Mentorship Program, and became a trusted friend and business partner. Through both their hard earned experiences, Steele and Danny developed the Motiva Group to facilitate both the quality Real Estate Education and networking opportunities that they wish they had had starting out in Real Estate. Steele and Danny have great passion for and pride themselves in helping others to “side step the land mines” to which the majority of Real Estate Investors fall prey, themselves included.
Both Danny and Teresa were able to relinquish their jobs for more freeing lifestyles. Teresa retired while pregnant with their first child and has gone on to enjoy life as an outstanding wife and mother of two. Gratefully commenting on how much her life has changed due to their success in Real estate, Teresa said, “Going shopping and not having to worry about the price tag or taking trips with the family all over the world are things we couldn’t have imagined before!”
In May 2007, the opportunity presented itself for Danny to buy the Motiva Group. Although Danny still creates lucrative Real Estate deals, he is now also thriving as the proud owner of the Motiva Group and relishes developing it’s platform for the greater achievement of all those involved.
